This is a rare eight panel advertising herald (flyer) promoting the Original Broadway production of the ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, DON BLACK and CHRISTOPHER HAMPTON musical "SUNSET BOULEVARD" at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City. (The Original West End production opened July 12th, 1993 at the Adelphi Theatre in London and ran for 1529 performances. The American Premiere took place on December 9th, 1993 at the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles, where the show ran for 369 performances. The Original Broadway production opened November 17th, 1994 and ran for 977 performances.) ..... The Tony Award winning "Best Musical" starred ELAINE PAIGE, making her Broadway debut as "Norma Desmond", ALAN CAMPBELL as "Joe Gillis", GEORGE HEARN as "Max von Mayerling" and ALICE RIPLEY as "Betty Schaefer" ..... Side note: The Original Broadway production of "SUNSET BLVD." was honored with seven Tony Awards including "Best Musical", "Best Actress in a Musical" (Glenn Close) and "Best Featured Actor in a Musical" (George Hearn). ELAINE PAIGE had replaced BETTY BUCKLEY in London when she crossed the Atlantic to take over for GLENN CLOSE, Broadway's original "Norma Desmond". ELAINE PAIGE repeated the task when BETTY BUCKLEY departed in October 1996 .....
