I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ........ This is a rare September 1958 playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the WALTER & JEAN KERR and LEROY ANDERSON musical "GOLDILOCKS" at the Erlanger Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The production would open October 11th, 1958 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York City and run for 161 performances.) ..... The musical starred BARRY SULLIVAN (who would be replaced in Boston by DON AMECHE) and ELAINE STRITCH and included RUSSELL NYPE, PAT STANLEY, NATHANIEL FREY, MARGARET HAMILTON, MARTIN WOLFSON, KELLY BROWN, DONALD BARTON, RICHARD ARMBRUSTER, DAVID NILLO, ILONA MURAI, GENE VARRONE and LOREN HIGHTOWER ..... CREDITS: Music by LEROY ANDERSON; Book by WALTER and JEAN KERR; Lyrics by JOAN FORD, WALTER KERR and JEAN KERR; Sets designed by PETER LARKIN; Costumes designed by CASTILLO; Choreographed by AGNES DE MILLE; Musical Direction by LEHMAN ENGEL; Directed by WALTER KERR; Produced by ROBERT WHITEHEAD ..... DETAILS: The 16 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors, but no cast photos ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Come To Me", "Guess Who", "Hello", "Little Girls" and "My Last Spring" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a light fold across the middle and minor edge wear, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
