    Description

This is a rare advertising postcard promoting
the 1919 Edition of the "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC" atop the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. (The production opened October 2nd, 1919 and ran for 171 performances.) .....
The "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC" was a late-night series that Florenz Ziegfeld staged in the New Amsterdam's intimate rooftop theater, "Danse de Follies". It featured a glass runway that let the chorus girls parade over the audiences heads, wearing tasteful ankle-length linen bloomers. A genuine hit, Ziegfeld produced a fully revised edition each year, but Prohibition and changes in popular taste kept attendance down and made 1921 the last regular year for the
    Frolic
. Ziegfeld would stage one further edition in 1928. (Wikipedia) ..... The 1919 edition featured
    W. C. FIELDS, FANNY BRICE, ALLYN KING, DORIS EATON, TED LEWIS, CHIC SALE and FRANCES WHITE who is featured on the front of the postcard
..... CREDITS: Music by DAVE STAMPER; Lyrics by GENE BUCK; Sets designed by JOSEPH URBAN; Staged by NED WAYBURN; Produced by FLORENZ ZIEGFELD, Jr.
..... DETAILS: The postcard measures 5" X 7" inches and was never postally used. It includes an image of FRANCES WHITE on the front and promotional text on the correspondence side ..... CONDITION: With the exception of moderate creasing (including two folds) and minor edge wear, this rare postcard is in very good condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
