This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the Post-Broadway engagement of the RACHEL CROTHERS comedy "SUSAN AND GOD" at the Harris Theatre in Chicago, Illinois beginning October 10th, 1938. (The production opened October 7th, 1937 at the Plymouth Theatre in New York City and ran for 288 performances before going on the road.) ..... The play starred GERTRUDE LAWRENCE (shown in the cover photo) and featured PAUL McGRATH, FRANK FENTON, JOHN D. SEYMOUR, ELEANOR AUDLEY, FRED LESLIE, EDITH ATWATER, DAVID BYRNE and NANCY COLEMAN ..... This single page, two-sided handbill measures 6 5/8" X 9" inches and includes a wonderful photo of GERTRUDE LAWRENCE and excerpts from several reviews on the front and a number of additional reviews on the backside ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) This rare handbill has a heavy fold across the middle and several edge tears. Despite these flaws, it will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
