    This is a rare March 15th, 1926 program (playbill) from the two-night engagement of the
    Bonstelle Acting Company's production of
    William Shakespeare's "ROMEO and JULIET" at the Bonstelle Playhouse in Detroit, Michigan ..... The play starred DONALD CAMERON as "Romeo" and twenty-one year-old JESSIE ROYCE LANDIS (nine months before she would make her Broadway debut) as "Juliet" and included MELVYN DOUGLAS, J. CLYDE CARIS, MARTIN BURTON, ARTHUR DAVISON, WALTER YOUNG, DARRELL STARNES, ADAMS T. RICE, WALTER SHERWIN, EDWARD ATKINSON, THAYER ROBERTS, GERTRUDE JAMES, GALE SONDERGAARD and JESSIE BONSTELLE ..... CREDITS: Book by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE; Sets designed by STEVEN NASTFOGEL; Directed by JESSIE BONSTELLE; Produced by the BONSTELLE COMPANY ..... The program also includes the credits for the Jesse Lynch Williams play "WHY NOT" presented by the Bonstelle Company. (The Original Broadway production opened December 25th, 1922 at New York's 48th Street Theatre and ran for 120 performances.) ..... The ensemble cast included DONALD CAMERON, JESSIE ROYCE LANDIS, GALE SONDERGAARD, CAROLYN HUMPHREYS, WALTER YOUNG, EVA VICTOR, MARTIN BURTON and MELVYN DOUGLAS (two years before he would make his Broadway debut) ..... DETAILS: The 24 page program measures 5 1/4" X 7 3/4" inches and includes wonderful cover graphics, full production credits, cast lists, synopsis of scenes and vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: With the exception of minor edge wear, this rare program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
