  • Condition: Up for auction is a rare vintage perfume dusting powder called Directoire by Charles of the Ritz. This is an extraordinarily large box containing 11 ounces that has never been opened. Also included is a gorgeous swan’s down puff that is yellow and sized at around 4.5 inches round & never used. The lid is a gold sateen like fabric that is imprinted with 9 golden bees. This top is in very good condition considering its age. The only issue is that there are some small brown stains on the edge of the box lid- see photos 4 (big picture), indivisual stain areas 5, 6 & 7. I don’t know if these stains can be removed—I have not tried, but probably on there permanently.The underside of the box is a beautiful gold foil like paper that has a few scratches commiserate with its age that describes the product.     Up for auction is a rare vintage perfume dusting powder called Directoire by Charles of the Ritz.  This is an extraordinarily large box containing 11 ounces that has never been opened.  Also included is a gorgeous swan’s down puff that is yellow and sized at around 4.5 inches round.  This product line was introduced sometime in 1945-46 and is classified as a floral.
    Beautiful round boxed presentation whose condition is commiserate with its age.
    The lid is a gold sateen like fabric that is imprinted with 9 golden bees.  This top is in very good condition considering its age
    The box is papered in a heavy white textured paper that has some interesting window or star designs along the center of the box and a floral frieze under the star designs
    Note:  There are 3 areas on the lid that have a brown discoloration to the bottom edging of the lid—see photos 4 (big picture), individual stain areas 4, 5, 6.  I don’t know if these stains can be removed—I have not tried, but it is most likely an age or perfume stain I don’t know
    The bottom base of the box that holds the powder portion is in very good condition
    The underside of the box is a beautiful gold foil like paper that has a few scratches commiserate with its age that describes the product
    When the lid is removed, there is an utterly gorgeous swans down puff whose feathers are yellow with a large bow tie.  This puff is exquisite.  When the underside is turned over, there is a gold & black label inside the bottom of the puff that reads:  Made in France
    Dimension of this puff is about 4 1/2 inches round
    The puff sits on the gold paper seal that has not been opened, and where the powder resides.  I have no idea of the powder condition
    The bottle weighs a little over one pound before it is even wrapped for shipping
    Dimensions of the box are about:  5 1/8  inches round and about 3.25 inches tall
    Very unusual and rare presentation!  The swans down puff is worth the purchase of this presentation!  Also, check out the other Charles of the Ritz items I have on auction.
